La France is one of 10 pieces that make up the Wanderlust Series. The entire series is a meditation on my past travels to different locations around the world.
I’ve traveled to France a few times, but the memories I chose to reflect on were part of the five-country tour I did with my best friends in 2008. The memories I reflected upon for this painting include: a garden in Arles that also inspired van Gogh, one of the glass pyramids by M. Pei outside the Louvré on a gloomy day and a gorgeous spread of vegetables at a market in Lyon.
About the series: I selected round canvases to reinforce my belief that time is circular. Each painting reflects on a location and three memories or photos from that trip. The swirling look of each painting is like a hazy portal into the past. By utilizing mirror paint in the center of each painting, I invite viewers to become participants—allowing them to transport themselves into my memory and “traveling” to a different place.
This painting is 20 inches in diameter and .5 inches in depth. It is varnished and pre-wired for ease of hanging.
